Re-Train Format
Re-Train Format is an exciting new take on Goat Format that aims to enhance and expand upon the metamorphosis and fusion gameplay mechanics. One of the most appealing aspects of Goat Format is the Metamorphosis spell card, which allows you to summon any fusion monster as long as you have a monster on the field with the same level. This versatility is a key part of what makes Goat Format so cool and strategic.
However, there's a limitation: out of the fusion monsters available in Goat Format, only about a dozen are worth using, and of those, you'll typically see just five or six in regular play. This is where Retrain Format comes in, serving as a custom card format for Goat. The Yu-Gi-Oh! community has always had a passion for custom card creation, and Retrain Format taps into this creativity.
Here's how it works: Every 2 months, we select two fusion monsters that originally had no effects. The community then votes, playtests, and collectively decides what effects should be added to these monsters. We start with basic ideas for the effects, considering how they might benefit certain archetypes or the overall game state, and then incorporate them into the format.
Over time, this process will create a living, evolving format that can develop in countless exciting directions. It's similar the Create-a-Pokemon format in Competitive Smogon Pokemon. In that format, they create Pokemon to fill specific roles or niches to see how they perform in the metagame. Retrain Format follows a similar philosophy.
The goal is to create a micro-format within Goat Format that should stay fresh and engaging, with new strategies and deck-building possibilities emerging as new retrains are introduced. It's a way to combine the beloved aspects of Goat Format with the creativity and unpredictability of custom card design.
